Standing Indian Mountain was named by the Cherokee. It is the highest mountain south of the Great Smokies. As a Californian, Southern "mountains" are something we tend to call "big hills", but at more than 5,000 feet this one nears respectability.
Along my walk there is a construction site where the crew has had a habit of leaving earth moving equipment on the sidewalk overnight. At 5 AM, in the rain, this makes me feisty. I've thought about calling the number on the construction sign, but I do have a sense of the absurd. Today management was on site and I managed to walk past them. But then I thought about the next morning when I'd be angry again and be wanting to call and here they were right here. So I turned back and said to the man that I realized I was the crazy neighbor and I was just going to tell him my very small complaint and then keep walking and he could do with it what he would.
He said he'd instruct the men to leave the sidewalk clear. Truly, it's a small thing for me but it's also a matter of moving a bulldozer less than four feet for them. And it's the law.
