Got up early and walked about nine miles from my house into downtown Raleigh for the Wake County SPCA K9-3K. Last year this was a well attended event. This year was overflowing. I have no idea how many hundreds of dogs. So many people that up until a few minutes before the start the line to sign-in was about a quarter-mile long. Finally they said for everyone to just go walk, whether they had a number or not.
Before the Walk
This big baby was behind me in the registraton line. Two years old, a bit nervous, prefers to be carried around by Dad even though he's got to be more than 20 pounds. After I took this picture he rest his chin on Dad's shoulder and closed his eyes.
The Walk
The North Carolina Governor's Mansion, and a dog.
Someone said this had to be the most unhappy mailman in America, but even he was grinning ear to ear. It's impossible to be unhappy at a dog walk!
In front of a Victoria era home in the Oakwood section of Raleigh.
After Walk
All the the dog owners accept that there's going to be dog paparazzi at this event, but I did ask permission to come up close and get this picture. This long hair German Shepard puppy(!) was one of the sweetest cuddle-dogs I've ever seen. Earlier he had is front legs drapped across Mom's lap.
Walk Home
Beautiful historic home on the edge of Oakwood. This one is staying put. Some of the following ones are being moved into in-fill in Oakwood and a new in-fill townhome development is being added to the neighborhood. A good neighborhood improvement project that everyone is excited about.
This one is staying put too. I think it is the Lt. Governor's office.
This one is being moved. You get a deal on the house and the lot, and you have to pay to have it moved and sign a contract promising to restore the house.
Walking under the train tracks back toward home. This used to be an abandoned area of the city where I would never have walked alone. Or in a group. Re-development has occurred on both ends of this street, and there is even a new townhome development directly against the track easement.
Wow, that looks like fun! Wish I had been there with my two dogs!
